The Telegu Association of North Texas (TANTEX), a member of the Telegu Association of North America (TANA), donated backpacks to the HEB PTA Clothes Closet for the tenth year in a row! TANTEX is an organization of people of Telugu origin residing in Texas. The two groups have donated more than 4,000 backpacks for HEB ISD students. #HEBISD What’s happening around the district Congratulations to our 2016 graduates from the first grade class of Spanish Immersion at Meadow Creek Elementary: Julia Runne, Ashton Castle, Derek Eamiguel, Sydney Garza, Nicholas Hentz, and Ryan Cruz. These 6 students began Spanish Immersion at Meadow Creek Elementary in the inaugural year of the program in 2005. The Trinity High School swim team came together before school started to be hosts at 6 Stones’ annual Operation Back 2 School event. Each swimmer walked with different families to help pick out the perfect color backpack for the children and helped them fill it up with supplies. 26 26 Bell Manor prekindergarten students studied space, the final frontier, by reading books, watching videos, and learning about the planets in our solar system. After making their space gear, they blasted off to space, came back, and enjoyed some freeze-dried astronaut ice cream. Two engineers from Lockheed Martin did a STEM presentation for the 5th grade students at North Euless. Students discussed the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as future engineering career paths they may be interested in. The HEB ISD Board of Trustees invited their counterparts to a discussion of implementing continuous improvement (CI) in school districts. Members of school boards from across North Texas met at the Buinger CTE Academy to discuss lessons learned. Students in the Instructional Practices of Education class at the Buinger CTE Academy developed classroom activities and interactive bulletin boards. They will have the opportunity to use their creations when observing educators at other HEB ISD schools. Nineteen students from Harwood Junior High visited the University of Texas at Arlington campus in May. The students and their adviser, Agnieszka Beavers, are members of the TRIO Talent Search program. Harwood students toured the library and planetarium and visited the memorial of UTA alum and Space Shuttle Columbia astronaut Kalpana Chawla. 27
