Central Junior High
Central Junior High World is aiming for World Class
Instruction in 2016-2017. Campus enrollment has
increased by 7% since last school year, bringing our total
to 1,016 current students.
The majority of this growth
centers around transfer
students from inside the
district accessing the IBI
World Language Program
and Orchestra. These
programs are only offered
at the junior high level in
HEB ISD at CJH.
CJH has 185 students in choir, 183 students in orchestra,
and 283 students in band; CJH also has 496 students
enrolled in foreign language classes (Spanish, French,
Arabic, Hindi and Mandarin Chinese are all taught at
CJH) and 507 of our students are involved in athletics.
In addition, CJH is piloting the Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math
(STEM) initiative. We
currently have 108
7th graders enrolled
in robotics and
engineering and 116
8th and 9th graders
enrolled in Concepts
of Engineering. We
are excited about
the opportunities this
program will provide
for the students of
HEB ISD. In 2017-2018 Central will begin accepting
transfers for School of Choice STEM.

Harwood Junior High
Each fall since 1972, Harwood Junior High has been
welcoming its 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students back
to school and preparing them for academic success.
For the past eight years, Dr. Toby Givens has proudly
served as Harwood’s principal. Under his leadership
students continue to excel not only in academics but
also in athletics and fine arts.
Maintaining status as a high-performing campus
requires dedication and adherence to its mission:
to partner with parents and the community to create
a positive, safe environment where all students are
empowered to excel.

The sense of community one feels when they visit
Harwood is not an accident; it is the result of teacher,
parent, and stakeholder involvement in all facets
of student life. The majority of Harwood’s faculty
and staff are involved in extra-curricular activities.
Participation and support in events such as athletics,
band concerts, choir concerts, HAWKS mentor club,
theater productions, talent shows, community volunteer
projects, and book swaps provide opportunities for
students and teachers to develop and reinforce
positive relationships.
The supportive learning environment Harwood
fosters is the key to sustaining outstanding student
achievement. The future will continue to be bright
for Harwood students because of the commitment
and shared vision of teachers, parents, community
stakeholders, and the students themselves.
