Bedford Fire Department Visits Bell Manor Elementary

The Bedford Fire Department
made a special visit to Bell
Manor in October to present
their annual Fire Prevention Program.
The firefighters starred in a very entertaining
and educational skit to teach 1st–6th graders
about fire safety procedures for evacuating a
dangerous situation. Students fell in love with
Sparky the Fire Dog, who sat front and center
with the students throughout the program.
A fire safety poster contest also took place.
The first place winners in each grade received a
special t-shirt, and the overall school winner got the
opportunity to ride to school in a fire truck.

Students were invited to the Bedford Fire
Department’s Open House on Saturday, October
17th to see Sparky, enjoy hot dogs, and learn
how to protect themselves during a fire emergency.

Shady Oaks Elementary
Partners with the Hurst Public Library

Involving families in education is one of the top goals of
Shady Oaks Elementary School. This vision aligns with
HEB ISD’s District Goal 5: Enduring Relationships with
Stakeholders. To attain our goal, staff members from
each grade level offer an engaging family night activity
which will reinforce the math and language arts skills
the students are learning.
In September, the cowboys and cowgirls from our
4th Grade Chaparral Ranch and their families were
invited to the ranch of the Hurst Public Library for Family
Night. Those attending received a warm “YIPPI-KI-YAY”
welcome from the library’s wonderful Youth Services
librarian, Mrs. Beverly Kirkendall, and the other staff
members of our public library. Students and their
families were given a tour of the library and shown
how to get a library card.
The evening included a tour of the tremendous learning
resources available for borrowing, and a demonstration
of how to use all of the library’s fantastic digital resources.
Our close partnership with our public library benefits all
of our families and encourages everyone to become an
enthusiastic lifelong learner!
