Siemens Energy and Duke Energy ’ s gas power plant achieves Guinness World Record™
Duke Energy ’ s Lincoln Combustion Turbine Station , powered by Siemens Energy ’ s SGT6-9000HL ( 60-Hz ) turbine , has been certified with the official Guinness World Records title for the “ most powerful simple-cycle gas power plant ” with an output of 410.9 megawatts .
As part of an innovative agreement , Siemens Energy installed and is currently testing its SGT6-9000HL turbine at Duke Energy ’ s Lincoln Combustion Turbine Station , about 25 miles north of Charlotte , NC . The new unit can generate enough energy to power more than 300,000 homes .
Siemens Energy ’ s SGT6-9000HL is designed to run longer between maintenance cycles and will be the most efficient of its type in Duke Energy ’ s fleet ( about 34 percent more efficient than the existing combustion turbines at the Lincoln site ). “ Power output , efficiency and operational flexibility are crucial elements in the decarbonization of the energy sector ,” says Karim Amin , Executive Board Member at Siemens Energy . “ This Guinness World Records title demonstrates our capability as a technology leader working together with Duke Energy to accelerate the path towards net-zero emissions .” “ Duke Energy is pursuing an aggressive clean energy transition , already achieving more than 40 percent carbon reduction since 2005 ,” said Kevin Murray , Vice President of Project Management & Construction
at Duke Energy . “ The new gas turbine at our Lincoln site will become the most fuel-efficient gas turbine in our fleet . The unit ’ s fast start and high ramp rate capability will support the increase in renewables we are placing on our system while complementing our journey to net-zero carbon from electricity generation by 2050 .” The power output of the unit is complemented by its agility . When renewables like solar or wind fluctuate , power from the HL-class turbine can quickly be added to the grid to meet market demands and help stabilize the power supply . The equipment that achieved the Guinness World Records title was delivered to the Lincoln site in November of 2019 and was started for the first time in April 2020 . It ’ s the first 60-Hz HLclass turbine from Siemens Energy .
Aidro celebrates 40 years
Klaren self-cleaning heat exchangers extract heat from river water
Aidro celebrates its 40th anniversary with customers , suppliers , friends and all the staff , in the wonderful setting of the medieval castle of Angera . The company is widely recognized as a pioneer in the mass production of next generation fluid power systems , valves and heat exchangers through metal additive manufacturing ( AM ) across a wide range of industries including oil and gas , energy , aerospace , mobile and industrial machinery . Founded in 1982 and based in northern Italy , Aidro introduced additive manufacturing alongside
the conventional manufacturing to design and create innovative solutions by exploiting the advantages of 3D printing , such as lightweight , integration of several parts into one , sustainability and complexity of shapes . The company is headed by Valeria and Tommaso Tirelli , sons of the founder , together with the General Manager Alberto Tacconelli , and is now part of the Desktop Metal group , with the aim to contribute to the transformation of manufacturing with an expansive portfolio of 3D printing solutions , from rapid prototyping to mass production .
Klaren International is a technology and engineering company based in the Netherlands that provides / supplies self-cleaning heat exchangers for operation up to zero-fouling . The company will supply two selfcleaning heat exchangers to the Überseeinsel project in Bremen , Germany . In Bremen , along the river Weser at the former Kellogg site , a new district will be realized . In order to provide heating and cooling , an energy plant is to be built which will use the Weser as a heat source . For the extraction of the heat from the river intermediate heat exchangers
are used in combination with heat pumps . Heat exchangers with cleaning configuration have been chosen to ensure a stable operation in summer and winter . The self-cleaning heat exchangers will prevent fouling , and besides that can prevent icescaling during operation when the river water is around zero degrees Celsius . This will make it possible to extract a substantial amount of heat from the river even in harsh winter conditions . The Klaren heat exchangers are expected to be supplied / installed in the second quarter of 2023 .
