The Town was recently notified that the Colorado Energy Office planned to award Pagosa Springs a USD |
140,390 grant to support upgrades to the Pagosa Springs Geothermal Heating District control building . |
This generous funding will help upgrade and replace portions of the existing geothermal heating system and was granted under the state ’ s Thermal Energy Network Project Installation Award . The original geothermal system was installed in the 1980s , and some components have received little to no preventative maintenance since the initial installation . This grant funding will allow for the replacement of the heat exchanger , pumps , instrumentation , and general facility improvements . The Town is required to match the grant funding , bringing the total project budget to USD 280,780 . At the Town ’ s council meeting , the mayor and council unanimously |
approved the matching funds , which will be paid from the Town ’ s general fund . The Colorado Energy Office stated in its Intent to Award letter that the Town ’ s application was selected to be partially funded because the project serves a variety of customers including low-income residents and stakeholders , where a lack of funding could result in the decommissioning of the facility and create a substantial increase in energy burden for the community . The letter went on to state that the Energy Office received over 40 applications , and they ultimately increased their initial funding round to approximately USD 7.7M to accommodate as many projects as possible . |
The California Institute for Energy and Environment ( CIEE ), in partnership with the Center for the Built Environment ( CBE ), has been awarded two major grants , totaling approximately USD 8M , from the California Energy Commission ( CEC ) to advance research on commercial building decarbonization . The larger grant , totaling roughly USD 6M , will fund work that aims to demonstrate how hospitals can cost-effectively reduce carbon emissions through heat recovery chiller retrofits . Dr . Paul Raftery from CBE will act as the principal investigator ( PI ), with Dr . Therese Peffer , the Associate Director |
for CIEE and the CITRIS Climate initiative , as the co-PI and project manager . Taylor Engineers and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory ( LBNL ) will serve as key collaborators . The second grant , totaling roughly USD 2M , will fund work that aims to advance the widespread adoption of Personal Comfort Devices ( PCDs ) in commercial buildings to improve indoor comfort , energy savings , and resilience . Peffer , the PI and project manager , will work with co- PI Dr . Hui Zhang from CBE to lead a multidisciplinary team of academic and industry partners from LBNL , the University of Notre Dame , Arup , TRC , and Normal Software . |
NextDecade Corporation ( NextDecade ) has announced that its subsidiary Rio Grande LNG Train 4 , LLC ( Rio Grande LNG Train 4 ) has executed a lump sum turnkey engineering , procurement , and construction ( EPC ) contract with Bechtel Energy Inc . ( Bechtel ) for the construction of Train 4 and related infrastructure at the Rio Grande LNG Facility . Rio Grande LNG Train 4 agreed to pay Bechtel approximately USD 4.3bn for the work under the EPC contract for Train 4 . Price validity under the contract extends through December 31 , 2024 . NextDecade currently projects that owner ’ s costs , contingencies , financing fees , |
and interest during construction will total approximately USD 1.7- 1.9bn , based on current estimates and expected interest rates . Total estimated project costs are expected to be USD 6.0-6.2bn for Train 4 and related infrastructure , in line with the per train cost of the three-train Phase 1 at the Rio Grande LNG Facility , which is currently under construction . NextDecade continues to target a positive Final Investment Decision for Train 4 in the second half of 2024 , subject to gaining appropriate commercial support and obtaining adequate financing to construct Train 4 and related infrastructure . |
