Self-cleaning heat exchanger for energy efficiency
A new district heating system for Bremen , in the “ Überseeinsel ” district , is being built on the former Kellogg site along the river Weser . The Überseeinsel district is to be supplied with electricity , heating , and cooling using an energy concept that is as CO2-neutral as possible . Therefore , wind turbines , solar energy , and the water of the river Weser will be used . For heating and cooling , heat exchangers will be applied to heat or cool a water-glycol solution for heat pumps using the river water from the Weser . Taprogge GmbH will deliver two self-cleaning heat exchangers , which are currently being manufactured . With the KLAREN Technology self-cleaning configuration , fouling of the tubes of the heat exchangers will be prevented . In winter , when the water is close to zero degrees Celsius , ice-scaling will also be prevented , and heat can still be extracted from the river water . The helical baffles at the shell side ( see picture ) will reduce the pressure drop and , hence , the energy required by the heat pump . HELIKLAREN is a unique solution that can help customers improve overall energy efficiency and achieve their sustainable goals . Klaren and Taprogge are proud to contribute to the energy transition and the use of renewable energy with this self-cleaning technology .

Success at Alleima ’ s Heat Exchanger Technical Day
For heat exchangers , the secret to cost savings lies in a smart blend of the right material selection , together with the expertise of good fabricators .
Alleima ’ s recent Heat Exchanger Technical Day in Milan bore witness to the power of such smart decisions . Around 70 guests
from the company ’ s network of customers and distributors – including a diverse mix of sales representatives , purchasing managers , technicians , corrosion specialists , quality assurance professionals , and engineers - came together at Alleima ’ s site , bolstered by the support of respected welding expert Polysoude SAS . Throughout the event , presentations explored critical topics such as materials selection for heat exchanger tubes , including Alleima ’ s new alloy , Sanicro ® 35 , designed to withstand the most demanding corrosive environments .
There were plenty of questions from the floor on topics such as the best methods for welding Sanicro ® 35 , and thought-provoking discussions . The day offered an excellent opportunity to have so many customers and the Alleima team , including management , converge , discuss , and fully explore how materials make the difference . The presentations were insightful and resonated deeply with the audience , with numerous attendees expressing their appreciation for a technically enlightening and inspirationpacked day .
