Positive energy

Editorial
A warm welcome back to everyone from this part of the world who has hopefully enjoyed a Summer break ! For part of my travels this summer , I spent time on the South Coast of the UK , revisiting the Devonshire landscape I remember from many happy holidays whilst growing up . Needless to say , the wind and rain were fierce and bracing , and made headland hikes all the more enjoyable .
It ’ s been a mixed summer , to say the least , and these changing weather patterns remind us of the importance of our industry . As vital equipment in the renewable energies and climate control sectors , heat exchangers may well become more known to those outside of the industry – a household name , even , if not yet a household appliance . In this September issue of Heat Exchanger World , Spirax Sarco ( page 16 ) and Chevron ( page 31 ) write of projects relating to net zero steam and geothermal technology respectively , so be sure to check those out .
From page 45 , you can read about the IOGP JIP33 - a programme providing standardised technical , quality and information requirements that overlay a recognised industry standard . Although having been active only a short time , the programme has been a great success , engaging with operators and EPCs to increase adoption across the industry . The project ’ s Specifications Manager , David Harris , and Engineering & Standards Director , Adri Postema , explain how JIP33 is having a positive impact even beyond the oil and gas industry , finding relevance in low-carbon projects such as electrification of existing facilities and carbon capture .
We also return to Himanshu Joshi ’ s ongoing series ‘ Fouling Focus ’, with Part 2 on pages 49-51 . In this article , Himanshu will explain how to accurately quantify the composition of a fouling deposit which helps to identify the dominant fouling mechanism , trace the sources of precursors , and take the most cost-effective mitigation actions .
Our September cover story looks to Curtiss-Wright EST Group , a well-established company founded in 1929 which provides engineered products , solutions , and services to the aerospace , defense , general industrial , and power generation markets worldwide . We spoke to David Kronen , Power Segment Manager , and Les Burns , Marketing Manager , of Curtiss-Wright ’ s EST Group , about the importance of proper testing and repair methods for leaks in shell & tube heat exchangers , and the company ’ s innovative solutions .
I hope you enjoy this September issue of Heat Exchanger World !
Kind regards , Ellie Pritchard Editor e . pritchard @ kci-world . com Tel .: + 31 575 585 270
