Battling corrosion
Corrosion is a serious and recurring problem in the heat exchanger industry , which demands expertise from designers , fabricators , operators and maintenance providers to combat it adequately . Depending on the application , the rate and severity of corrosion in heat transfer systems may be affected by temperature , pressure , and the corrosiveness of the process medium . There is no one-size-fits-all solution , with cost playing a key role in determining how to tackle this problem . Yet there is no doubt that material selection is one of the most crucial decisions that will affect the corrosive behaviour of a heat exchanger over its lifecycle .
Omari Sabuni has provided a feature article tackling this important topic in this month ’ s magazine . He explains that selecting the correct material of construction will ensure the longevity , efficiency , and safety of a heat exchanger . His step-by-step feature , which starts on page 45 , takes you through the process of how to choose the most suitable material for your application .
