Where heat exchange meets connection
As this issue goes to press, the excitement around the upcoming Heat Exchanger World Expo & Conference Europe 2026 is reaching its peak. Taking place on 6 & 7 May in Rotterdam, the event represents far more than a date in the calendar, it is the result of months of dedicated effort to bring together a global community of engineers, manufacturers, EPCs, researchers, and end users under one roof.
Organising an event of this scale is no small task. Behind the scenes, our team has worked tirelessly to curate a programme that reflects the real challenges and opportunities shaping the heat transfer industry today. From advancing thermal efficiency and tackling emissions, to exploring digitalisation and new materials, the conference is designed to foster meaningful dialogue and practical knowledge exchange. At its core, the event is about creating a space where ideas can be shared, partnerships formed, and innovation accelerated.
Our cover story shines a spotlight on a topic that is often underestimated, yet fundamental to heat exchanger performance: sealing technology. In our conversation with Teadit, we explore how gasket selection plays a far more critical role than is commonly assumed. Too often treated as a commodity, gaskets can in fact determine the reliability, efficiency, and environmental performance of an entire system. As industries push toward higher efficiency and lower emissions, even seemingly small components are proving to have a significant impact.
Turning to our feature story, we examine a different but equally important aspect of project success: specification. Written by Musa Smakaj and Prof. Dr. Mads Kyed, the article explores seven common mistakes in heat exchanger projects that often originate not in fabrication or operation, but in the earliest design decisions. From unclear load cases to outdated calculation methods and fragmented data management, the authors demonstrate how small gaps in specification can cascade into major technical and financial risks.
Our technical spotlight continues the forward-looking theme with a focus on digitalisation in air-cooled heat exchanger performance. As explored by Pim van Ramshorst of Hexwise, rising global temperatures and more frequent heatwaves are placing cooling systems under increasing strain. The article highlights how digital monitoring technologies are enabling operators to move beyond reactive maintenance toward proactive performance management.
As you flip through this month’ s issue, I hope you get inspired and join us to greet the bright future of the heat exchanger industry on 6 & 7 May in Rotterdam and Exchange What Matters together!
