Dry coolers for art preservation
Rijksmuseum and Ateliergebouw in Amsterdam , the Netherlands .
The Ateliergebouw in Amsterdam is an impressive facility dedicated to the preservation and restoration of some of the most precious works of art from the Dutch national collection . This historic building is home to a team of talented and dedicated conservators who work tirelessly to repair and maintain a diverse range of objects , from delicate ceramics to intricate metalwork . The workshop is a hive of activity , with conservators carefully examining each piece and working to restore it to its former glory . of a new dry cooler without the need to remove any part of the roof . Using a dry cooler with copper fins , the team was able to increase the heat transfer per square meter of exchange surface , ensuring that the new system would be highly efficient . Additionally , the dry cooler was designed to be brought into the building in four separate parts , allowing it to fit through the available roof opening without any need for major modifications .

One of the key challenges faced by the Ateliergebouw was the need to update its HVAC system . The existing system was in dire need of renovation , and the decision was made to replace the old condenser with a more efficient dry cooler . However , the limited space and complex construction of the roof made it difficult to bring a large dry cooler into the building without incurring significant costs .
Innovative installation Thankfully , Recupair and FACO were able to devise an innovative solution that allowed for the installation
The art of preservation The Ateliergebouw is a truly remarkable facility that brings together the expertise of the Rijksmuseum , the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands ( RCE ), and the University of Amsterdam ( UvA ). These three institutions work closely together to pool their knowledge and experience in the field of restoration and conservation , creating a hub of innovation and excellence that is unparalleled in its scope . As part of this collaboration , the UvA Cultural Heritage Preservation and Restoration Department , the Rijksmuseum , and the RCE have joined forces to establish the Netherlands Institute for Conservation , Art , and Science ( NICAS ). This groundbreaking institute is funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research ( NWO ) and is the fifth partner of Delft University of Technology ( TU Delft ). Together , these institutions are working to drive innovative interdisciplinary research that unites conservation , science , and art history . At the heart of NICAS lies a commitment to exploring the origins of artwork and the ways in which it evolves over time . By focusing on key themes such as material dynamics , diagnostics , conservation treatment , and a new kind of art history , NICAS is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of restoration and conservation . Whether it is through the development of new techniques , the creation of innovative conservation treatments , or the exploration of new areas of research , NICAS is dedicated to advancing the field of art preservation and ensuring that these precious works of art are protected for future generations to enjoy .
