Focus areas and objectives The facility will focus on two key areas : 1 . Conventional foods and beverages : Developing processes to produce nutritious food with higher yields and reduced energy , water , and raw material use , alongside upcycling waste streams .
2 . Next-generation foods : Creating scalable technologies for plant-based and fermentation-based foods with radically reduced environmental impacts .
The centre will house complete food processing lines , enabling flexible testing and development to refine and scale innovative ideas . Collaborations will span start-ups , global corporations , and academia to accelerate innovation and regulatory approval processes .
Addressing the protein challenge Protein , critical for global nutrition , poses significant sustainability challenges . Initial operations will prioritize efficient protein extraction from plant-based and fermentation processes to create healthy , eco-friendly foods . Efforts will also optimize meat and fish-based processing , minimizing their environmental footprint while addressing their continued necessity in feeding the population .
Empowering future innovators In addition to driving technical innovation , the centre will provide training to empower future experts in food processing . By fostering collaboration and holistic approaches , Alfa Laval seeks to enhance conventional production methods , improve yields , reduce energy and water consumption , and recover resources from waste streams , paving the way for a sustainable food future .
