Capstone Green Energy receives new orders
Capstone Green Energy Corporation ( CGRN ) has announced that E-quad Power Systems GmbH , Capstone ’ s long-time distributor for Belgium , Denmark , Germany , and the Netherlands , has secured two new orders . The first is an order for a C200S microturbine-based combined heat and power ( CHP ) system for a leading textile finishing company . The second order is for four 65kW high-pressure natural gas ( HPNG ), dual mode ( DM ), high humidity offshore systems for an offshore gas production company with assets in the North Sea that is a loyal Capstone customer . The C200S microturbine-based CHP system is for leading textile finishing company Gerhard van Clewe GmbH & Co . KG , based in Hamminkeln , Germany . The system is expected to be commissioned in May 2023 and will be fueled by high-pressure natural gas . The C200S will provide up to 200kW of electricity to the plant , while the exhaust produced by the microturbine will be captured for use in the material drying process as well as the
production of warm water for the facility . The company first considered microturbine technology due to rising electricity costs compared to the low cost of natural gas . As a company with a sustainability mission , it also valued the high efficiency and emissions reduction that a CHP system delivers .
bp to evaluate the feasibility of building a new hydrogen hub
bp will evaluate the feasibility of building a new hydrogen hub in Germany . The project , which would be located in Wilhelmshaven , is expected to include an industry-leading ammonia cracker that could provide up to 130,000 tons of low-carbon hydrogen from green ammonia , per year , from 2028 . Green ammonia produced by combining nitrogen with hydrogen derived from the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources is expected to be shipped from bp green hydrogen projects around the world to Wilhelmshaven . The cracker converts the green ammonia into green hydrogen by splitting the larger molecule into its smaller nitrogen and hydrogen components which can then be used directly . It ’ s anticipated that up to 130,000 tons of hydrogen per year could be produced from the site , with scope for further expansion as the market for future fuels develops . bp ’ s plans include utilising the existing infrastructure of the Nord-West Oelleitung ( NWO ) terminal at Wilhelmshaven , where it is a participating shareholder . With its deep-water harbour and pipeline system , Wilhelmshaven is one of the country ’ s most important energy terminals and is well positioned to support energy transition activities . Additionally , bp ’ s plans propose to utilise the current oil & gas pipelines for use in hydrogen transport . The low-carbon hydrogen could then be delivered to customers in the Ruhr region and other centres of demand .
MHI signs MoU with Chile ’ s Guacolda Energía
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries , Ltd . ( MHI ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with Guacolda Energía SpA , an independent power producer ( IPP ) in the Republic of Chile , to begin a feasibility study for the introduction of ammonia co-firing at a coal-fired thermal power plant operated by the company in the north of the country . The project is being undertaken in response to the global trend toward reducing CO2 emissions . The power plant that will be the site of the study is located in Huasco , Atacama Region , approximately 700 km north of the capital city of Santiago . The plant comprises five power generation units with a total output of 758 megawatts ( MW ). MHI supplied the boiler , steam turbine , and other core facilities for this plant . Under the feasibility study plan based on the MoU , MHI , with support from its power solutions brand Mitsubishi Power , will determine and conduct a study of supplying the ammonia burners and other boiler facilities and equipment necessary for ammonia co-firing . Phase 1 , through 2024 , will be a basic
study for 30 % ammonia cofiring to identify the problems involved . Phase 2 , from 2025 to 2026 , will be to consider solutions to the problems identified in Phase 1 and compile a detailed plan for the demonstration of 30 % ammonia co-firing . In the future , Guacolda aims to conduct demonstration testing at the plant and increase the co-firing rate .
