Lummus launches PFAS analytical services
Noventa acquires innovative heat from wastewater assets
Lummus Technology , a provider of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions , announced new analytical services for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances ( PFAS ), also known as “ forever chemicals .” The services provide accurate detection of a wide range of PFAS compounds , helping water and wastewater operators assess contamination levels and monitor the progress of their treatment systems . Housed at the Lummus Green Circle Labs in LaPorte , Texas , the analysis equipment can precisely analyze a set of 40 PFAS compounds down to parts per trillion levels . This precise testing requires minimal sample preparation , which can save time and reduce the risk of sample contamination . PFAS are a large range of synthetic fluorinated organic compounds
that have been produced and widely used in industrial applications and consumer products since the 1930s . Commonly referred to as forever chemicals , PFAS do not naturally break down in the environment and can cause health problems in high exposure cases . Lummus and Element Six ( E6 ) announced a global partnership earlier this year to introduce scalable solutions for PFAS destruction for water and wastewater treatment . The collaboration combines E6 ’ s DiamoxTM reactor with Lummus ’ electro oxidation technology and system integration for water and wastewater treatment . The combined technologies have proven to be successful in destroying both long and short chain PFAS compounds .
Noventa Energy ( Noventa ), a provider of decarbonised heating and cooling solutions , has acquired three innovative heat from wastewater assets from Scottish Water Horizons , located in Glasgow , Stirling , and Campbeltown . These assets , the first of their kind in the UK , will be partially repowered to benefit from Noventa ’ s proprietary , the technology to reduce emissions and expand heat generation capacity . The acquisition supports the company ’ s plans to expand in the UK and Europe . The strategic transaction will also enable Scottish Water Horizons , a commercial subsidiary of Scottish Water and a leader in sustainable energy , to release capital to carry out further investment in renewable technologies .
At the heart of this acquisition is Noventa ’ s proprietary Wastewater Energy Transfer™ ( WET™ ) System , anchored by HUBER ThermWin ® technology , which harnesses the thermal energy in wastewater - reducing carbon emissions from heating by more than 70 %. The three heat from waste water schemes currently provides heating to district heat networks owned by Stirling Council and Clyde Gateway as well as a leisure centre owned by Argyll & Bute Council . The energy centres also provide power to wastewater treatment plants owned by Scottish Water in Stirling and Glasgow . The services are provided under long-term heat and power agreements and are delivered through combined heat and power and wastewater energy transfer systems .
VE Partners acquires Stainalloy
VE Partners ( VEP ), a Benelux investment firm focused on medium-sized companies , has acquired Stainalloy , a Dutch distributor specializing in exotic steel piping packages . This acquisition positions Stainalloy for accelerated growth in emerging markets driven by decarbonization and green technologies . Stainalloy is renowned for its expertise in duplex and high-nickel piping packages , offering a comprehensive portfolio of pipes , fittings , flanges , plates , and engineered products . Historically serving offshore and petrochemical sectors , the company is now expanding into green technologies , including hydrogen , ammonia , carbon capture , and desalination . VE Partners will support Stainalloy ’ s transition to sustainable markets through organizational improvements , strategic growth initiatives , and buy-and-build strategies . “ Stainalloy ’ s niche expertise and strong market position provide a robust platform for future growth ,” said Bob de Lange , Partner at VE Partners . Stainalloy CEO Arjan Goedknegt expressed confidence in the partnership , emphasizing its
potential to unlock new opportunities in the evolving energy landscape .
Fluor joint venture begins work on Romanian nuclear plant expansion
Fluor Corporation announced its joint venture ( JV ) has received a limited notice to proceed ( LNTP ) for the design phase of Units 3 & 4 at Romania ’ s Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant . The contract , signed by EnergoNuclear S . A ., a subsidiary of SN Nuclearelectrica S . A ., at the COP29 climate conference in Baku , Azerbaijan , marks a key milestone in
advancing Romania ’ s energy security and sustainability . The Fluor-led JV includes AtkinsRéalis , Sargent & Lundy , and Ansaldo Nucleare . Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja and U . S . Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm attended the signing , emphasizing its strategic importance . The plant currently produces 1.4 gigawatts , covering 20 % of
Romania ’ s electricity demand . Adding Units 3 & 4 will nearly double output . Under the LNTP , the JV will develop engineering plans ,
updated cost estimates , and safety reports to support a final investment decision before construction proceeds .
