SECO / WARWICK Group opens SECO / LAB
Innovation is the basis for the SECO / WARWICK Group ’ s development . Last week , the industrial furnace manufacturer and a leader in metal heat treatment , opened SECO / LAB , a modern Production Automation
and Mechatronics Laboratory , at the University of Zielona Góra . The laboratory will help University of Zielona Góra students acquire practical skills , which will undoubtedly be an advantage on the labor market .
The SECO / WARWICK Group has been recognized for years as one of the most dynamic companies investing in innovation . The company has received numerous accolades including the title of : “ Merit for Invention ” on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Polish Patent Office , or “ The one who changes Polish industry ” and multiple awards for “ Innovator ,” “ Innovator of the Year ,” and “ Innovative Company ”. SECO / LAB is also the name of the SECO / WARWICK R & D center and metallographic laboratory . The Polish R & D Department started in 2006 with 3 employees , and today it is a dynamic organizational unit cooperating with many universities and employing over a dozen highly qualified employees , including scientists , automation engineers ,
and outstanding heat treatment , thermo-chemical , and metallurgy specialists . The SECO / WARWICK Group ’ s second Research and Development Center is located in the United States in Buffalo , NY . SECO / LAB is the name given not only to the laboratory at the University of Zielona Góra , but also to the research and development center in Świebodzin . The SECO / WARWICK R & D Center is divided into two areas . In the first stage of development , technological tests are carried out using industrial equipment . During the second stage in the laboratory , test material preparation is carried out , i . e . material from technological tests is prepared for further examination and the prepared samples are analyzed .
DEWA achieves remarkable milestone Primetals Technologies enters the Turkish market
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA ) achieved a remarkable milestone in enhancing electricity and water production efficiency , with a notable 41.73 % increase in 2023 compared to 2006 . This achievement translates to a significant reduction of 92.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions between 2006 and 2023 , which is equivalent to planting approximately 484 million trees required to absorb this volume of CO2 emissions . Tayer highlighted the importance of leveraging innovation and advanced technologies across all facilities and projects to enhance energy and water production efficiency continually . Nasser Lootah , Executive Vice President of Generation ( Power & Water ) at DEWA , elaborated on the methodologies employed by DEWA for electricity and water production . DEWA utilizes co-generation technology , where Heat Recovery Steam Generators ( HRSG ) harness waste heat from gas turbines to generate additional electricity and provide thermal energy for water desalination . Additionally , DEWA implements an innovative hybrid system for water desalination , integrating technologies like Multi-Stage Flashing ( MSF ) and Sea Water Reverse Osmosis ( SWRO ) to ensure optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness .
Primetals Technologies has received the final acceptance certificate ( FAC ) for a wire rod mill modernization project at Kaptan Demir Çelik ( Kaptan Iron & Steel , part of Kaptan Group ) in Marmara Ereğlisi , Turkey . With an annual capacity of 650,000 tons , the facility will process carbon , austenitic stainless steel , and cold heading grades . The project has expanded Kaptan ’ s portfolio to include such value-added products as coiled rebar , fine grain rebar , and welding wire for the engineering and automotive industries in both domestic and export markets . The new equipment allows Kaptan to be a quality leader in the world market . The startup was remarkably quick . It took only 21 days from the start of hot commissioning until the first saleable product . This record-setting implementation has established
a new industry standard and was made possible thanks to an experienced project team as well as close and effective collaboration between Primetals Technologies and Kaptan Demir Çelik . The equipment ’ s technological advantages , along with prominent aftermarket services , ensured by Primetals Technologies ’ local presence in Turkey , were two of the main influencing factors when Kaptan chose Primetals Technologies as a supplier in 2021 . The new wire rod outlet has increased Kaptan ’ s overall production and finishing speeds . The mill rolls up to 105 tons per hour at speeds of up to 110 meters per second . Kaptan can now offer quality carbon products ranging from 4.5 to 26 millimeters in diameter at an expanded range of rebar sizes from 6 to 20 millimeters .
