Resources for chemical engineers
Mihir M . Patel is a Chemical Engineer with a Master ’ s degree from USA in 1987 . Additionally , he is a Project Management Professional ( PMP ® ) from PMI , USA , as well as a TUV SUD certified Functional Safety Professional . He has been practicing chemical engineering for over 36 + years in the Chemical Process Industry . Patel now shares his knowledge and experience through the format of published handbooks and training courses for chemical engineers . Patel ’ s book titled as “ MIHIR ’ S Handbook of Chemical Process Engineering ” is written with a vision to aid chemical engineers to carry out chemical process engineering in a practical , efficient , and simplified way . This book has proven useful for all levels of process engineers . It is based on practical industry aspects and covers most of the chemical process engineering concepts in one place . The handbook includes 40 eBooks & 170 + excel templates , divided into 3 volumes . Volume 1 ( 25 eBooks ): provides complete design information on various unit operations & equipment encountered by a process engineer . Volume 2 ( 15 eBooks ): covers various types of projects , different engineering disciplines involved . Engineering documentation produced by a process engineer . Volume 3 ( 170 Excel sheets ): has actual excel-based 40 calculation templates , 25 blank checklists , 93 process datasheets , 12 TBE formats , 41 P & IDs .

HRS completes construction of company ’ s largest evaporator system
Following a 15-month design and build period , HRS Heat Exchangers has completed the construction of the largest evaporation system in the company ’ s history . Assembled entirely at HRS ’ manufacturing hub in Murcia , Spain , the system stands at a height of 16m with a footprint of 135m 2 and a total evaporation capacity of nine tonnes per hour . Comprising 19 tanks and 15 titanium heat exchangers , the super-sized multi-stage flash evaporator has been designed to process sodium chloride-rich brine effluent from heavy process industry for an unnamed Spanish client . The system also includes a crystallizer , to ensure no liquid is discharged from site . “ This bespoke ZLD evaporator and crystallizer system will deliver an output of 700 kg / h of humid crystals for our customer ,” explains Tomas Stiebe , Technical Sales Engineer for HRS Heat Exchangers and the project lead . “ Featuring a pre-heater , degasser , main recirculation pump , five sequential heat exchanger sections , five sequential flash tanks and a final condenser , it is the largest evaporator system we ’ ve manufactured to date .” The system is due to be installed at the client ’ s site in May , with
commissioning expected in the autumn . Located in the UK , HRS Heat Exchangers is part of the EIL Group ( Exchanger Industries Limited ) which operates at the forefront of thermal technology . HRS offers innovative heat transfer solutions worldwide across a diverse range of industries . With more than 40 years ’ experience , specialising in the design and manufacture of an extensive range of turnkey systems and components , incorporating our corrugated tubular and scraped surface heat exchanger technology , HRS products are compliant with global design and industry standards .
GeoHex project update
The GEOHEX consortium held a webinar sharing their work on ‘ Novel Coatings for Geothermal Heat Exchangers ,’ which is now available to view online . The even took place on 15 March 2023 , with project leaders from Grein Research , Tæknisetur and the Innovation Centre Iceland presenting . GEOHEX has been working to develop materials for geothermal heat exchangers , so that these critical components are better protected from scaling and corrosion . The challenge lies in finding metal alloy compositions that form a stable amorphous structure . This has led to the investigation of materials capable of not only providing the required anti-corrosion properties but also able to withstand the high temperatures associated with geothermal applications .
