Inside this directory you will find many examples
of the outstanding hardwood furniture produced by
craftsmen in Northern Indiana, along with outdoor
furniture, crafts, games, children’s toys, accessory
items and finishing shops.
The majority of the businesses listed here are
owned by Amish craftsmen. Although woodworking has a long tradition in the area, Northern Indiana became a driving force in the furniture industry
in the late 1990s.
The Northern Indiana area quickly became
known for quality construction, attention to detail and innovation. You can read more about the
history of the furniture industry in the area on
page 22.
In addition to the quality of the workmanship,
you will also find the owners of the businesses to
be knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with.
Most shops are small, with a few employees, and
the owner is directly involved in the construction of
the product. That means extra attention to meeting
your needs.
Since the majority of the businesses are Amish
owned, most of the phone numbers listed are for
voice mail so you’ll likely have to leave a message.

However, most of the businesses check messages regularly and you’ll usually receive a return call within 24
hours.
The Heartland Directory has been helping promote these businesses since 2000. Obviously, not every furniture manufacturer chose to advertise in these
pages. But we think that you will find that the ones
who did offer quality products that you’ll be proud to
present to your customers.
In the back you will also find maps that list the
locations of the businesses. These locations are approximations but should be useful to reach the right
areas.
