He will be truly missed . Fortunately , the Sacred Heart mission is a collective effort and will live on in the 150 Sacred Heart educators and the students entrusted to our care . When the new Head of Schools , Meg Steele , assumes the role on July 1 , new memories will be made for the entire community — ones that will include joy and gratitude for the past , present and future of our beloved Sacred Heart Schools .
The SHCOG visiting team addresses faculty and staff in 2016 .
Anyone who enters the doors of a Sacred Heart school knows that , even beyond their education here , they will “ always have a home at Sacred Heart .” Mr . Wilburn has fostered that spirit of belonging and inclusion not only with current families , but with alumni , parents of alumni , grandparents and friends . The school has seen increased engagement from these constituencies at Alumni Reunion Weekend , the All Hearts Mass , the Parents of Alumni Christmas Party , Grandparents ’ Day and L ’ Esprit de Sacré Coeur , which was held virtually this year ( see page 12 ).
When Mr . Wilburn moves on to become Head of the Conference of Sacred Heart education , he will leave his mark on the Sacred Heart community and among all who knew him at Sacred Heart . He will be roundly acknowledged for his strong relationships with students and parents , the Board of Trustees , faculty and staff , alumni , donors and other friends of the school . He will be saluted for how deftly he handled all the pandemic challenges that occurred in the spring of 2020 and throughout the academic year 2020-21 . He will be heartily congratulated for all the successes he participated in or initiated during his tenure .
This recognition will certainly be well deserved , but it doesn ’ t quite capture the sum of his gifts : his warmth , ready humor , sense of fun and depth of insight . Or his ability to really listen . From hearing out a worried parent to “ taking meetings ” with the designated student-Head of Schools for a day , from dealing with complicated budget matters to reminiscing with alumni or donors , Mr . Wilburn has handled being Head of Schools on Sheridan Road with grace , perspective and kindness .
Through good times and more challenging ones , Nat ’ s steady hand on the helm , his clearly demonstrated concern for the well-being of all members of the community , and his commitment to the mission as embodied in the Goals and Criteria have been hallmarks of his leadership . I remember with admiration and appreciation those qualities along with his sense of joy , good humor , patience and humility .
