“My favourite room was the bathroom. It was
bright pink with an open fire and an iron bath –
a gorgeous room to relax in with scented candles,
the fire blazing and a glass of bubbles,” says
50-year-old Julian Kalinowski.

In 2010, Julian, a collector of fashion dolls from
the 1950s and 1960s, moved from a one-bedroom
flat in Luxborough Tower, Marylebone, to a
Grade II Georgian town house in Ramsgate: “I was
attracted to it because it was a grand and beautiful
house of a style that I never imagined I would be
able to afford,” he says.
