Let’s have a Pinkalicious time!

Autumn peaks through the clear cool skies. Colorful trees adorn
the city streets. We associate this time of year as the beginning of
Halloween and Thanksgiving fun. There is however, another very
important time that kicks off during this season. The month of October is
also deemed “Breast Cancer Awareness” Month.
Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death in women.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation about 1 in 8
women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their life
time. Because of this it is important that we remind ourselves and our
fellow sisters to do monthly self-breast examinations, eat healthy,
exercise and schedule a mammogram at the appropriate age.
It wasn’t until breast cancer plaque someone very near and dear to
my daughters and me that I began to teach them about breast cancer and
how it affects both those diagnosed and their love ones. I will never
forget the day we went to see that special person in the hospital. The
girls were very intrigue by the bandages and wanted to know WHY?
After explaining the woes of the disease we felt compelled to show that
special someone just how important they are to us. My sister and I
decided to host a family fun day at the Susan B. Komen Race for the
Cure. We invited all of our family and friends to have a pinkalicious
time by celebrate the life of the person we so dearly love. The girls and I
eagerly prepared for the big day by adorning ourselves in all the “pink”
one could take. From clothing and tennis, to hair, make-up and
accessories we were ready to show the world of our support to continue
to fight the cause.
