Minoans on the island of Crete are first
to have produced purple dye using the
mucus glands of a tropical sea snail. It
was stinky work!
The date for Purple Day is enshrined in
Canadian Law under the Purple Day Act
that was passed in 2012. Purple Day was
founded in 2008, by Cassidy Megan,
aged nine, of Nova Scotia, Canada.
The ancient Phoenician
city of Canaan means
“The Land of the Purple”.
