New Year,

New You!

To help you out, here are some experts' tips for turning last year's failed resolution into something lasting for the future.

Make Peace With Your Trigger Foods:

Old Resolution: Ok, I will not eat any more chocolate... ever!

Makeover: "Make peace with your trigger foods," Upton says. "Don't have them at home staring you in the face, but allow yourself to have them once or twice a week.

Banning your favorite food, is easier said than done, and is going to backfire sooner or later, says Julie Upton, RD, Health.com's resident dietiation, "Dieters will eat it, binge on it, feel bad, and then throw in the towel and revert back to their old eating patterns."

Rejoice in the Lifelong Health Benefits:

Old Resolution: All the food from the holidays went straight to my stomach and hips. I'm going to have to not eat to undo the damgage.

Makeover: Instead of being sad and down about dieting, rejoice in the lifelong health benefits you wil be creating. "I want people to think health and longevity,' Kersting says. "Losing weight becomes easy when you invest you mental energy in making positive healthy changes for yourself. "

"When somebody says diet, they're thinking deprivation," say Tom Kersting, PhD, author of Losing Weight When Diets Fail. If you feel like your diet plan is dragging on, you are going to feel punished and you will probably abandon it.

"Like any plan, you want to be specific... If it's very vauge it leaves you too many places to sabatage yourself."
