would believe.
Some people chose not to. Some people still choose not to believe. But, just because they don’t believe doesn’t mean he didn’t come or that he isn’t who he says he is.
Part of our good response to God and our defense against the devil is allowing God to transform our minds. The best way of allowing him to do this is by reading The Bible and memorizing scriptures. Memorizing scripture is like training our bodies in sports, ballet, or music. I would never expect to be able to perform a ballet dance if I hadn’t first learned the steps and rehearsed. I would never expect to be able to play a piece of music if I hadn’t learned to play the flute first! Likewise, I can’t expect God to transform my mind if I haven’t filled my mind with his word. So memorizing scripture is a lot like practicing soccer, rehearsing ballet, or practicing flute. Psalm 91 is one of my all time favorite scriptures. There was a time when I was very scared. I would get scared at night or when I was in certain places. These are the bible verses that I memorized and would say in my mind whenever I got scared. They help me sleep. I hope you will learn them (or others) and add them to your mind’s library.
I’ve written about memorizing scripture today as a way of adding to our mental repertoire so that God can transform our minds. In the first paragraph, I promised to unpack how our bodies are our house and primary tool for actualizing our spirit life with God. So how is a mental transformation a bodily act? Well, how else will we memorize except by daily choosing with our body to go and open our Bible, sit and read, copy on a note card, affix on a mirror or dashboard, and actively learn? It is through our body that we can do these things. Each noun has a verb in front of it. And our bodies are our machines for “doing.” Thank you, Lord, for our bodies! Help us to use them to take small baby steps that bring you honor and glory and to bring us out of hiding.
