LGBT HISTORY MONTH

In February, all over the UK, people will be celebrating LGBTQ + History Month. The aim of this is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of everyone. This is done by:
Increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, their history, lives and experiences
Raising awareness and advancing education matters affecting the LGBT community
Working to make educational and other institutions safe places for the LGBT community
Promoting the welfare of LGBT people
This year at Glasgow University, there will be a whole range of activities and events running throughout all 4 student bodies – GUSA, SRC, GUU and QMU.
Take a look at this excellent report‘ Being Out in Sport’ by the University of East London. It highlights a lot of key areas that need developed and focused on by sports teams and clubs. Whether you read it for educational purposes or to help you better your club’ s attitude to LGBT participation, we could all learn a thing or two from it.

On the 1 st of February, the LGBT flag will be raised on the main university flagpole at 12pm.
Keep an eye on the social media of all four student bodies to see how YOU can get involved in any events and initiatives.
