Stressed Out?
WORK IT OUT!
What is your daily routine?: I get up, get ready, and go to school. After school I usually have horseback riding practice, ACT tutoring, and homework. Horseback riding is a daily activity for me that i absolutely love, but is very time consuming. I try and go to the gym when I have the time, but school and other activities take up a lot of it. At the end of the day, I go home, eat dinner, shower, and try to go to bed as early as possible.
How do you manage your time?: I try to manage my time by preparing everything I need for the next day the night before. I make sure all my homework is in my backpack, laying out my clothes for school the next day, and putting a bag together with my riding clothes. Just by doing these simple things, it saves me time to get from place to place throughout the day.
Is it effective?: Going to the gym is an effective stress reliever because there are many different options of what I can do at the gym. If I am feeling extremely tired one day I can go to a yoga class and relax, of if I have a lot of stressful energy, I can take a boxing class and punch it out.
What helps you relieve stress the best?: The best stress reliever for me is going to the gym. If I am ever feeling overwhelmed with school, riding, or other issues, gym is my go to place. Running and boxing helps me release my stress and anger, while lifting helps me strengthen my body which makes me feel better about myself. Every time I leave the gym, I walk out feeling productive and with a relaxed piece of mind.
What are a few tips you'd give to someone stressed?: The best advice I can give to someone who is stressed is to make sure you find something that makes you feel good about yourself and reassures you, and it's okay to take a break and relax. The gym is a good place to do this because it offers of a variety of options depending how you're feeling. Yoga if your tired and in your head, boxing if you're stressed and angry, or spinning if you have a lot of energy. Just find what's right for you.
Today teens are faced with an overload of stress. Balancing school, sports, a job, and extra activities is challenging for teens. Many people use exercising as a way to cope with their stress. I had interviewed Maddy Lima who is a current high school student facing these difficulties. She shared with me the amount of stress she receives and how she is able to manage it all.
