It sounds so machismo to say, “I’m fine. It’s just a twinge – or a spot – or an ache. I don’t need to go to the doctor.” But how often do those words full of bravado turn into words full of regret? “If only I’d gone to the doctor sooner. If only I’d taken better care Willie B. Ray – Art of Strength Kettle Bell Gym of myself – not smoked – gotten that checkup.” Yes, if only my father had gone to the doctor sooner instead of trying to “tough it out.” Perhaps he would not have died of lung cancer at age 68. Perhaps if Anthony had gone to the doctor sooner and been screened for colon cancer, he wouldn’t have died of the disease at age 63. Men, your families love and depend on you. It doesn’t mean you’re weak if you “cave in” and go to the doctor for a health checkup. It means you care about yourself and those around you, those who would rather you live to a long, ripe, good old age instead of passing away far too soon and leaving an unfillable void in our lives. I’m just sayin’. Tanya J.
