2014 BB&T Hospice Heroes Announced

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – Many people have worked tirelessly throughout
Hospice of the Bluegrass’ 36-year
history to ensure end-of-life care is
available to everyone who needs it.
The 2014 Class of BB&T Hospice
Heroes were recognized at a celebration on June 20 at the Keeneland
Sales Pavilion.
Those honored include:
· Greg Powell, Hospice Hero for
Volunteer Service. Powell has been a
loyal patient and bereavement volunteer for more than 20 years.
· Greg & Noreen Wells, Hospice
Heroes for Philanthropy. The Wells
were instrumental in the development
of a free-standing inpatient facility for
eastern Kentucky as well as being the
lead donors for the Capital Campaign.
The Greg & Noreen Hospice Care
Center is located in Hazard.
· Community Medical Associates,
Hospice Heroes for Leadership. This
group of dedicated physicians have
played a vital role in Hospice’s history
by donating countless hours working
with Hospice teams to provide care to
the terminally ill and their families.
· Gretchen Brown, Hospice Hero
for Lifetime Achievement. After 32
years as the leader of Hospice of the
Bluegrass, Brown will retire this year.
When Brown began, Hospice served
18 patients in Fayette County. Today
Hospice serves nearly 700 patients
each day throughout 32 counties.
Brown is nationally recognized as an
expert in end-of-life care.
For 36 years, Hospice of the
Bluegrass has provided quality endof-life care and support for terminally
ill patients in their homes, nursing
facilities and at the Hospice Care
Centers in Lexington and Hazard.
Hospice of the Bluegrass never denies
services because of an inability
to pay. Support and bereavement
services extend to family members,
caregivers, and anyone in grief in the
community. Hospice of the Bluegrass
serves nearly 700 patients daily in 32
central, southeastern and northern
Kentucky counties.
