Admit it. When did you last get
your eyes checked? For me, a simple
trip to the dentist’s office when I
was 14 led to my mother dragging
me to the optometrist where it
was revealed that I needed glasses.
(At the time, I kicked myself for
mentioning that I couldn’t read the
sign on the opposite wall.) Since
then, my prescription has become
stronger but I’ve grown to like my
glasses. Some people prefer Lasik,
but I couldn’t imagine not having
my frames. With a grandmother who
suffered from glaucoma and a great
uncle whose naval career caused
lasting eye damage (the reflections of
the sun on the water), I remain well
aware of the need for regular vision
exams.
