Avoid antacids and acid blockers
BANANAS ARE HEALTHY Research has shown that high-potassium foods, of which the banana is a prime example, may lower the risk of strokes. Potassium also plays a vital role in the functioning of the muscles, heart and nerves and prevents calcium from being lost in the urine.
NUTRITIONAL CONTENT Bananas are high in vitamins B6 and C; the minerals potassium and magnesium, dietary fibre and free of sodium and cholesterol. They contain high-grade protein and three of the essential amino acids.
GOOD FOR KIDS Very few people are allergic to bananas, and they are often the first solid food given to babies, who tend to love them. They make a healthful way to help supply the energy needs of growing, active children.
A GOOD SUPPLY OF ENERGY Bananas are a great source of instant energy. Due to their potassium, they help muscles contract properly during exercise and reduce cramps.
DIGESTION Bananas are easy to digest. They nourish the friendly probiotic bacteria in the colon. Less ripe bananas help relieve constipation and riper bananas help relieve diarrhoea.
MOOD AND SLEEP Ripe bananas can also help boost mood and help promote sleep due to the serotonin and tryptophan that they contain.
HEART AND BONE HEALTH High fibre foods, such as bananas, can help prevent heart disease.
GREEN PACKAGING Bananas are handy to eat and in their own natural, biodegradable“ wrapper.”

The effects of low stomach acid
Gastric acid is a digestive fluid in the stomach with a pH of 1.5 to 3.5 which is referred to as low pH. Gastric acid plays a key role in the digestion of proteins.
Achlorhydria or hypochlorhydria refers to low or absent gastric acid( or a high pH) in the stomach and is associated with various medical problems.
Decreased acid levels can cause stomach pain and gastro oesophageal reflux due to the impairment of digestion as the activation of the enzyme pepsin is inhibited in a low stomach acid environment.
Low acid levels in the stomach are linked to bacterial overgrowth, diarrhoea and decreased absorption of nutrients and vitamins. There is also a higher risk of bacterial infection and nutritional deficiencies due to the malabsorption of the electrolytes magnesium and zinc, and vitamins C, K, and B complex. These deficiencies( in electrolytes and vitamins) may cause a wide range of pathologies, from fairly benign neuromuscular issues, to life-threatening diseases. Causes of low stomach acid production
• The slowing of the body’ s metabolic rate
• Autoimmune disorders
• Antacids, H2 Blockers and Proton Pump Inhibitors( PPIs)
• Helicobacter pylori which neutralises and decreases the secretion of gastric acid
• Atrophic gastritis Antacids, H2 Blockers and PPIs decrease gastric acid production which can provoke measurable changes in mineral metabolism and cause anxiety, bloating, constipation, depression, diarrhoea, flatulence, headaches, decreased libido, muscle pain, nausea and renal pain.
