Consulting the Crystal Ball :
Experts Describe IP & C Challenges and Opportunities by 2030

W hile the gift of being able to divine the future may be reserved for a few notable individuals such as Nostradamus , in more modern times , surveying experts and extrapolating the results may be the closest we can get to having a magic crystal ball . That ’ s exactly what a small group of medical professionals has done to get a feel for where the infection prevention & control ( IP & C ) sector is headed by the year 2030 .
The Infection Prevention Crystal Ball Initiative was undertaken in January 2019 under the auspices of the Swiss National Center of Infection Prevention ( Swissnoso )’ s desire to leverage insights from international infection prevention experts through several rounds of inquiry and exchange through an online platform .
The first round took place in January through March 2019 as an online survey with 18 of 44 selected international senior infection prevention experts . Four open core questions produced valuable insights in what the future could look like for infection prevention through 2030 , and the findings were presented as a poster at the sixth IPIC 2021 conference in Geneva .
