elcome to the inaugural issue of Healthcare Hygiene magazine. For
the last almost 20 years, I led the content of another publication
in this segment, and if you have found and followed me over
from that other title, thank you for your loyalty. And if we have yet to meet,
I look forward to the opportunity to get to know you through these pages
as well as at upcoming conferences and industry events. When life summons
you to your next adventure, you must heed its call, as I have with this chance
to serve the infection prevention community in a more meaningful way. In
the three-plus decades that I have worked in the publishing industry, I have
never encountered a brighter, more discerning group of professionals than
the one I have been honored to serve all these years.
If you are reading this publication, you, too, have heeded a special calling
– to safeguard patients and other healthcare professionals. And that kind of
vocational commitment requires grit, dedication, passion and perseverance.
It is appropriate that we launch this publication the week before Infection
Prevention Week 2019, as a salute to the incredible contributions you are
making to HAI prevention and control. We have something in common, you
and I, in that my purpose through publishing is to provide you with a platform
that can support you, educate you, and offer a dynamic online community
through which ideas can be exchanged, solutions to problems identified and
implemented, and challenges ahead faced with confidence because you are
armed with knowledge.
Healthcare Hygiene magazine was launched to build bridges between
the many diverse stakeholders that are united to champion HAI prevention,
uphold patient safety, maintain quality, enact change and lead healthcare
institutions into the ever-changing healthcare landscape. We are here to help
you navigate clinical, fiscal and regulatory hurdles, encourage you to get out
of silos and strategize with colleagues across departments and divisions, and
assist you with making sense of the complicated world around you.
We are dedicated to science-driven content, and we delight in publishing
individuals who have ideas and strategies they wish to share with their peers.
We welcome your questions and feedback so that we may be able to continue
to shape this publication and this platform to better serve you.
Let the journey begin.
Until next month, bust those bugs!
