If you have concerns about drains as a vector for pathogens , a drain disinfection program with a product that kills biofilm and can be easily applied on a routine schedule may provide sustained decolonization of the sink drain , thereby preventing transmission of potentially dangerous pathogens from sinks . However , it ’ s important that the product used to disinfect drains stays in contact with the drain surface above the p-trap for the required contact time in order to be effective .
