To ensure that HAI data serves to optimally support IP & C programs and meet reporting requirement , improvements in surveillance systems must keep pace with the technology available . The path to this end point would be expedited with government dollars directed in support of fully automated and standardized HAI surveillance , made available to all U . S . hospitals . In the short term this will require hospital executives partnering with IP & C departments to leverage the rapidly evolving field of infection detection software to ensure best use of resources .
