Charleston couple grateful for cancer care close to home .
Neil and Kathy Bradford are life partners . Married for nearly 42 years , the couple spends much of their time together enjoying music and community festivals and finishing each other ’ s sentences .
“ When one of us was down and out , thank goodness the other was at full tilt ,” Neil said . “ We ’ ve always been partners in all we do .”
Attitude is everything for these two , as they both continue to feel very blessed despite individual battles with cancer .
In 2010 , upper back pain led Neil to seek care from his doctor . The doctor thought Neil ’ s back pain may have resulted from moving furniture , so he suggested that Neil take a week off work as a painting sub-foreman for Eastern Illinois University . The situation went from bad to worse the following week when Neil went to Sarah Bush Lincoln with bacterial pneumonia and suffered a heart attack in the Emergency Department .
