This session included three exciting presentations
and one inspiring demonstration! Kathleen Crerand
showcased the Long Term Conditions Telehealth
Project where telehealth is used to support adults
with type 2 diabetes transferring on to insulin.
Next, Johnny Loughrey introduced No Barriers – a
foundation created to raise money to fund specialist
equipment so that people with disabilities can
keep fit. Gerry McCabe, who was paralysed after an
accident in 2004, joined Johnny to demonstrate the
robotic exoskeleton suit which enables him to walk.
Gerry described how his suit – Hughie – had changed
his life and thanked the community, Johnny and his
wife Dolores for all their support.
Finally Dr Ann Shortt gave a passionate presentation
on the role good communication plays in
empowering patients.
Eoghan O’Mahoney, Enterprise Ireland’s
Senior Development Adviser, hosted an ex-
citing discussion with start-ups swiftQueue,
Web Doctor and Medxnote.
Through the discussion, the start-ups
shared their journey through the Irish
healthcare system as well as the challenges
they have faced. The general consensus
being that solutions must solve multiple
problems in a way that does not result in
clinicians sitting at a computer all day.
