Dr Tanya Mulcahy introduced the audience
to the Health Innovation Hub and how they de-
liver activities at a national level to all academic
institutions, healthcare providers and commer-
cial companies.
Tanya provided lots of pointers to the diverse
audience for how they could engage with HIHI
e.g. as a vehicle to match products, services,
and technologies to clinical settings, a con-
nector to link innovators to expertise not easily
accessed, a means to provide reference sites
for companies, and as an advisor to those with
healthcare ideas/products/services/technolo-
gies.

This exciting panel, expertly chaired by Saif
Abed, included a fantastic line up of Chief
Clinical Information Officers (CCIO) from across
the UK and Ireland. Saif, unafraid to ask the
tough questions, asked the panel what it
meant to be a digital clinician.
This initiated a discussion on the emergence
of the digital clinician as both a cultural and
technological challenge. The consensus
amongst the panellists being that leadership
is key and that the role of the CCIO requires
passion, resilience, protected time, financial
incentive and political support.
Rhidian Hurle, Chief Clinical Information Officer

Services
Yvonne Goff, Chief Clinical Information Officer, HSE
Pieter van der Graaf, Digital Health Policy Lead,

Health and Social Care Integration
Keith McNeil, Chief Clinical Information Officer and
Head of IT Health and Social Care England
David Wilson, Consultant Geriatrician, NI CCIO,

Every clinician will have
to be digital. The power
of digital is the power of
information.
The issue comes when
individuals have to
change what they do.
You need to show them
the benefit to them.
