Keele Leadership Development Programme for Clinicians Our Leadership Development programme is suitable for clinicians from all health professions, in both acute and mental health specialties and in primary care. This modular programme will benefit those who have had no previous formal leadership development, as well as those wishing to enhance their existing leadership skills. Clinicians with no previous experience of leadership development should take both modules; those who have attended initial leadership development will benefit from the advanced module. Our staff are happy to discuss individual cases for those who are unsure which pathway is suitable for them. Foundation module This two-day residential programme, delivered by Keele faculty, NHS staff and professional leadership experts, focuses on the leadership skills that you require to be effective in your role in an increasingly challenging financial environment. Through a mix of theory, self-analysis and practical work, it aims to improve your knowledge and understanding and to equip you to practise confidently and effectively. Advanced module This programme is open to clinicians in all specialties and health professions and is aimed at those who have attended initial leadership development and now wish to develop their skills further. The implementation of the new NHS structure in April 2013, and the Government’s response to the Francis Report, together with the very considerable financial savings required of the service over the next two years, are creating significant challenges for clinical leaders; this short, focused, advanced programme has been designed specifically to enable you to lead more effectively in this turbulent environment. You will be challenged to evaluate your leadership style, skills and practice and encouraged to work through your own challenges, so that you will leave with renewed confidence to play an active role in developing services for patients in your organisation. The programme will use small group work and case studies to enable you to explore current issues with your fellow participants and begin to develop effective solutions to some of our difficult healthcare challenges. You will be supported throughout by experienced facilitators from both the NHS and Bespoke programmes for organisations and teams Our staff have extensive experience of working with many and various NHS organisations and teams providing personal and organisational support and expertise in leadership development. Our strengths are in leadership development of individuals and teams managing and delivering clinical services in the NHS. A very important initial diagnostic part of the process of engagement is gaining understanding of the situation and needs of the client and each programme is tailored to meet those needs. This type of programme is, therefore, based very much on partnership between the School and the client. Throughout the programme there is regular discussion and feedback between the two parties.
