PLEASE GIVE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF YOUR PRACTICE.
“I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic and immunologic conditions, the most common of which include hay fever, eczema, hives, asthma, medication allergies and food allergies. Adults and children are welcome.”
WAS THERE A DEFINING MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER THAT GUIDED YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
“I grew up in a physician household, and I knew very early in life that I wanted to be a doctor. But it wasn’t until I experienced my own first asthma attack that I knew exactly what I wanted to do as a physician.”
WHAT’S ONE TREND THAT IS CHANGING YOUR SPECIALTY TODAY?
“Allergies and asthma are on the rise—clearly. I am seeing many more children and adults with food allergies. The latest studies suggest that one in 10 children suffer from a food allergy, including my younger son, who is peanutallergic. I believe this rise in allergies is probably due to multiple factors, including the overuse of antibiotics and anti-microbial gels/sprays, in addition to the different ways that our food is grown in today’s world. I worry about genetically modified foods, for example, as we know that very small changes in a given food can alert the immune system to react. All of these changes pose a challenge to an allergist, patients and their parents. It is important to work with an allergist to obtain the right tests and to formulate a good plan of action.”
