The scary call came around the time my husband was due back from a Dad’s weekend in Vegas. He was being transferred from the plane to Torrance Memorial for arm tingling and chest pains Heart attack? Nope. According to the emergency doctors, my husband had a panic attack. Their recommendation: Slow down and meditate. “Meditate? Ha!” My husband laughed out loud … until he was rushed back (not once but twice) to the same hospital. It was then that he realized he was one of millions of overworked, overtired, over-stimulated people who face this problem daily—and that he needed to change. Daniel Levin, a mediation expert with healingwithdaniel.com, says, “Panic attacks are just emotion responses, and meditation cleanses the body from emotion attachments.” During a panic attack, the world you create from experiences and daily life starts spinning out of control. “When you meditate, you allow the sense of time to stop, so you can go inside the root of your world and watch from a ‘still’ point of view,” Levin says.
