Topic: Delivered from the Ruling Spirits of the Universe
Text: Galatians 4:1-11
Memory Verse: “Formerly when you did not know, you were in bondage to beings that by nature are no gods” (Gal.4:8)
Lesson
Last week we learnt that we are dead to things of darkness because we have passed from spiritual death and darkness into spiritual life and light. We have been delivered from the authority of darkness (Col.1:13). But this week we want to look at our freedom from the rulers of darkness of this world who rule and reign over people in our land, city and nation.
Your Past Life
According to our memory verse when we did not know God, we were in bondage to beings that by nature are no gods. That is, you were a slave to these spirit beings. Who are these spirit beings?
These beings are powers, principalities, the rulers of darkness of this world (the ruling, elemental, master and territorial spirits) and the wicked spirits in the heavenly places (Eph.6:12, Gal.4:3&9, Eph.3:10 and Col.2:10). To these elemental/ruling/master/territorial spirits we were slaves when we were sinners. They were ruling and reigning over us then spiritually. They controlled our lives spiritually. We found ourselves doing what we did not want to do, going to places we did not want to go, etc.
Why? This is because these beings were seated upon us ruling us spiritually then.
This was painted in the book of Revelation about the great harlot who is seated upon many waters. According to the angelic interpretation, the waters on which the harlot is seated are peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues (Rev.17:1-2 and 15).
In the book of Daniel, there was this prince of Persia who ruled and reigned over the nation of Persia spiritually. He was the king of Persia spiritually ruling and reigning over the king and people of Persia (Dan.10:10-13). This is the spiritual reality of our land, city, nation and the world. And to these beings you were a slave when you were not born again.
Your New Life
In Colossians 2:20, God declared that you are dead to these beings. In other words, you have been delivered from their lordship, jurisdictional power and authority (Col.1:13). You are no longer in bondage to these beings in God’s presence. They shouldn’t control your life anymore.
In Galatians 4:9, Apostle Paul affirmed our deliverance from these beings that by nature are no gods. Beloved, this is our spiritual legal ground to declare our absolute freedom from any ruling spirit or ruler of darkness of our family, land, town, city and nation.
In Colossians 2:10, the Holy Spirit affirmed that you are complete in Him (Jesus Christ) who is the head of all principality and powers. In other words, you are a head spiritually over all these beings in Christ Jesus because you are seated with Christ Jesus at the right hand of God with all angels, authorities, powers, principalities and dominions subject to you in Christ Jesus (Eph.2:6, Eph.1:20-22 and 1 Peter 3:22)
Conclusion
You are no longer a slave to demons or family idols; Jesus Christ has set you free by His blood and death. Hence, enforce your freedom and walk in it daily. A witch/wizard in your neighborhood/family shouldn’t be a threat to you. Now is the time to stand in your freedom and destroy every power that wants to waste your life and destiny.
