A change of Identity 2
Text: Romans 5:12-21
Memory verse: “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous” (Romans 5:19)
Lesson
In the last lesson we learnt that the sinful nature in man made him a sinner and a child of satan, and in order for God to save man from sin, He removed this evil nature and replaced it with His life and nature at salvation which makes a sinner a child of God and righteousness of God. But in this we want to look at the science behind a change of identity.
Science behind New Creation
In accordance with our memory verse Adam’s disobedience made all men sinners by nature. We have learnt ‘In the Beginning series’ that all humanity was involved in Adam’s sin because according to the law of identification God saw all humanity in Adam. So when he sinned all humanity sinned against God in him (Rom.3:9, Rom.3:23, 1 Cor.15:21-22). When he became a sinner by nature, all humanity became sinful in nature. This is because Adam represented all humanity before God.
Similarly Christ Jesus represented all humanity before God on the cross. He was because He was the only man that was not born spiritually dead and a sinner. He only became a sinner and spiritually dead when He became sin on the cross. As a result, He identified with us and God laid on Him the iniquity of us all ( 2 Cor.5:21,1Jn3:5, Isa.53:4-6). Jesus died on the cross as a sinner and He rose as the righteousness of God. He abolished death and gave us life and immortality (2 Tim.1:10, Heb.2:14-17).
As a result, He became our life, redemption, righteousness and sanctification (1Cor.1:30). He conquered sin, spiritual death and emerged as the Lord, King and Head over all the realms of spiritual darkness (Eph.1:20-23, 1 Peter 3:22, Col.2:10). Now when any man comes to God through Christ Jesus for salvation , he becomes identified with Christ in His crucifixion, death, burial, justification in the realm of death, resurrection, glorification and exaltation to the right hand of God above all realms of spiritual death and darkness where satan is lord, king and head, and demons the princes thereof. Just as in Adam you’re born a sinner and spiritually dead likewise in Christ Jesus you are born the righteousness and spiritually alive to the realms of God for fellowship, communion and partnership. Just as in Adam you are born a child of satan and an enemy of God you are born a child of God and accepted into the beloved (Eph.2:19, Gal.4:6-7).
Conclusion
In Christ Jesus you are no longer who you used to be a sinner and a captive of satan. You are a new creation created and designed in Christ Jesus via God by pouring His life and nature unto your spirit to replace the sin in your spirit.
