In common practice we say a person is dead, once his breath stopped, which is normally accompanied by stopping of heart. So we say his Prana’ (breath) has left his body and he is dead. Yet his body is still warm, light and seems as if he is in deep sleep! 1. ’Prana’ as per ancient Vedic texts exit the body from our physical orifices like - eyes, ears, mouth, nostrils that in most cases there will be bulging of eyes or some form of tiny discharge from one of the orifices of the dead body. Here it would be interesting to share the cases, where accomplished yogic practitioners and Masters have left their physical body at will thereby accepting death through Yogic focus to push out their ‘Prana’ through their crown or the top of their skull ! In all such cases a small crack or pore is noticed in the top of head from where the ‘ Prana’ has exited the physical body! Tibetan Buddhist tradition too have a process called ‘Phowa’ where an accomplished practitioner can push his consciousness out of his physical body from the crown of his head - which actually appears as a minute crack or pore in the top of his skull! you can read in detail about in my article published in ‘November 2018’ issue. There are cases where Doctor’s or family members were shocked by the sudden jerk or twitching or movement in dead body, minutes or even hour after death!! The reason is: 2. The Apan Vayu - which governs the sensory aspects of our life. So when it slowly leaves we may notice a sudden sensory response in some cases. 3. As the time passes we slowly notice that the body start to cool down as if the process that kept the body warm and running is slowly shutting down. This is the indication of; The Saman Vayu leaving or exiting the body because Saman Vayu is that prana, which regulates the Body heat and metabolism, so as after death as it slowly exit the body, the body start becoming cold. 4. A few of you who have worked in hospitals who have attended to the dying or dead must have noticed that the same person who felt Light and Easy to carry or hold, his body after death feels heavy ! Ever wondered the body weight we carry on our legs the whole life without ever feeling tired or exhausted of our own body. Udan Vayu makes our body buoyant
