Vajramani is the word for diamond in Sanskrit. Another name for
it was Agiramani which means fire or the sun Crystal. In fact there
are 14 names counted to be given to a diamond in traditional
Hinduism.
Because of their extraordinary physical properties, diamonds have been used
symbolically since near the time of their first discovery. Perhaps the earliest
symbolic use of diamonds was as the eyes of Hindu devotional statues. [c] In
Hinduism Indra uses Vajrayudham or the thunderbolt as his primary weapon.

trade in India. [3] Buddhist works dating from the 4th century BC describe the
diamond as a well-known and precious stone but do not mention the details
of diamond cutting. [4] Another Indian description written in the beginning of the
3rd century describes strength, regularity, brilliance, ability to scratch metals,
and good refractive properties as the desirable qualities of a diamond. [5]
