At this level there is also the development of empathy - appreciating
others’ experiences from their perspective. But the Mature Soul’s sense of
self can become confusing because of this empathy with others.
The Mature Soul keeps being reminded that all perspectives are valid but
not necessarily correct, and that there are perspectives on perspectives on
perspectives. And so begins the search for a deeper truth that will ultimately
lead back to Oneness.
Mature Souls seek understanding, authenticity and integrity, especially in
relationships, but also in other aspects of life including art and spirituality.
They come to appreciate both the diversity and complexity of life. For you
Trekkies out there, if the world of Star Trek were a reality, these people
would be sporting the Vulcan IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite
Combinations) symbol around their neck. They will often explore
relationships from a variety of perspectives because they want to fully
understand the relationship between people and the relationship to self. If
self-employed, these people will often want their mate to also be their
business partner and vice-versa.
The Mature Soul may be drawn to artistic expression, psychology,
personal and spiritual development and exploring other cultures as well as
the depths of the human psyche. They want to understand the core of the
human persona - not just from their limited perspective, but from a variety of
perspectives. They are drawn to understanding themselves on the deepest
level. Now please don't confuse the “self-focus” of the Mature Soul
with the “self-absorption” of the Young Soul. The Mature Soul’s self-
focus is on the pursuit to understand the higher nature of people, as
opposed to the Young Soul’s need to outshine everyone else and be ‘King
of the Hill’ and ‘Top of the Heap’.
Because of their willingness to accept and include others, and their
empathy for others’ experiences, Mature Souls can be overly self-critical at
times. While Young Souls tend to blame anyone but themselves for their
