mind in terms of the physical machinery on which it runs. It’s far too
complicated to do either of these things. Regardless of whether the
mind is just the properties which arise from your brain or it’s
something more than that, it’s useful to draw a functional distinction
between brain and mind.
True..
15. Please explain hypnotherapy in your words.
There are many challenges when it comes to measuring
hypnotherapy and creating a research paradigm that would elevate
it to the level of a science. We do not even have a good definition
of hypnosis as a starting point - something which is paralysing
research efforts. That’s a shame. It means that hypnosis is rarely
taught to psychology undergrads who are scientists.
On the other hand, the basis of a great deal of the language of
hypnosis is actually found in formal logic and transformational
grammar. In that sense, I consider hypnosis to be a branch of
philosophy. Perhaps we could say that it fits into the school of
General Semantics.
Hypnotherapy (the way I practice it at least) is the application of
logic and metaphysics to psychological problems.
Thank you Matt.
