Migraine, Epilepsy and Genetics
A possible relationship between migraine and epilepsy has long been debated.
The Epilepsy Phenome/Genome project (EPGP) provided the first demonstration
of a shared genetic effect on migraine and epilepsy in a large group of individuals with common epilepsy and common migraine. This article is based on Dr.
Winawer’s Seymour Diamond, M.D. Lectureship, “Evidence for a Shared Genetic
Susceptibility to Migraine and Epilepsy,” which was presented on Friday,
February 14, 2014, at the course, The 27th Annual Practicing Physician’s
Approach to the Difficult Headache Patient.
