start a fresh grow. No harm, and you will probably learn a lesson about what not to do with your plants in the future. A commercial grow will generally not eradicate; they will mitigate as best as possible, and some will use every chemical not specifically banned to avoid potentially losing millions of dollars’ worth of product when fighting infestations of disease, bugs, or mold.
What if a commercial industry grow utilized bad cannabis flower that was not good enough to sell on its own, and processes it into concentrates and other processed goods? Not likely, but remember, the concentrates, hash, and edibles that you make from your garden will be made from your clean, homegrown, no bullshit added buds!
The Ability to Keep and Clone Mothers

Get Growing in 2026

● What other hobby doesn’ t cost you, but rather saves you loads of money?
● It is truly a beautiful hobby. It is peaceful in your garden— like nowhere else in the world. Good to“ Keep Your Sanity.”
● Talk to your plants, they will listen!
Not to be Overlooked: Small Batch Harvesting = Higher Quality Buds
It is very important to be able to have consistency when you come across a variety of cannabis that works for you. The idea of Mothers allows you to continuously have the exact same variety of cannabis consistently.
● One of the biggest benefits of growing your own is keeping a variety you love available whenever you wish to enjoy it.( Please refer to my Mother’ s Day article in last year’ s May 2025 issue of The EVOLUTION Magazine for complete details on this topic.)
Keeping Cannabis Grassroots
We have mentioned some of the steps taken throughout the grow to ensure clean, high-quality cannabis, but the harvesting process is especially important for maintaining the integrity of your grow. Large commercial operations tend to dry-trim and machine-work their harvests, even tumbling them to recover kief. These processes cause large amounts of unnecessary trichome loss, resulting in far lower quality buds than you will get with carefully handtrimmed, homegrown cannabis!

( Simply Put) Homegrown equals Farmers Market. Everyone can agree that a cucumber from the grocery store is fine( never mind the fact that you don’ t know where it came from or how it was grown), but the cucumber that comes from your garden just tastes sweeter, fresher, and is all around just plain better!

Gerry Donovan, the owner of Emerald Garden Grow Supply, Raytown, MO, says,“ I am not a plant Biologist nor a Chemist. I do not have any formal cannabis plant education, as that was a non-existent thing before today’ s world. I do, however, have a passion for cannabis, which words fail to describe. I’ ve traveled throughout Europe, including Amsterdam, Spain, and Canada, where I not only ventured into the world of seeds and genetics but also continued my quest to learn as much as I could about Growing the Plant. I continue to expand my knowledge via grow seminars and cultivators’ conferences and, most importantly, through simple discussions with other growers. Over the last 22 years, I’ ve developed my own Grow Methodology through trial and error with love and passion. I hope to guide you on the pathway to enjoying the best cannabis you have ever consumed— your own homegrown!” Cannabis – Education – Wellness.
