‘ fit and forget’ correctly specified products of the right quality, social landlords pay heavily. That’ s why ABP has quality embedded throughout the entire manufacturing process. From material selection and engineering design to testing, fabrication and installation support, every stage contributes to the final outcome. Rigorous testing against recognised industry standards( ISO, BS) provides assurance that products will perform as intended throughout their service life.
Ultimately, quality is about confidence. Confidence in specialists like ABP undertaking installation programmes. Confidence for housing providers managing long-term assets. Most importantly, confidence for residents who depend on these products every day.
Windows as a Gateway to Sustainable Homes
One of the most pressing challenges facing the sector is the transition to net zero. While policy timelines may shift as we await Decent Homes 2 and the introduction of the Future Homes Standard, the underlying direction of travel is clear. Housing providers must reduce carbon emissions while maintaining affordability for residents.
Windows and doors play a pivotal role in this transition. Poorly performing units are among the biggest contributors to heat loss in residential buildings. Conversely, modern, well-specified replacements can significantly improve thermal performance, reducing energy demand and lowering fuel bills for tenants. A robust window strategy, therefore, becomes a gateway intervention, one that enables and enhances other retrofit measures such as insulation upgrades, renewable energy systems, and whole-house improvements.
Sustainability is often viewed solely through the lens of carbon reduction which for ABP is just one strand of our sustainability strategy. We carry out closed loop recycling from extrusion to installation, deploy electric vehicles, and use innovation to invest in maintaining our current facility rather than building something new and shiny. But whilst environmental responsibility is undoubtedly important, true sustainability encompasses much more.
It means designing products that last. The most sustainable product is the one that delivers decades of reliable service with minimal maintenance requirements. Longevity reduces waste, lowers lifecycle costs and minimises the environmental impact associated with manufacturing and replacement. Responsible manufacturing practices are equally important. We continually evaluate their supply chains, material sourcing, production methods and waste management processes.
There is also a crucial social dimension to sustainability. Energy-efficient homes help reduce fuel poverty by lowering household energy bills. Better thermal performance and improved ventilation contribute to healthier indoor environments. Secure and durable entrance doors support resident wellbeing and community confidence.
In social housing, sustainability is ultimately measured not only by environmental metrics, but also by the positive impact delivered to residents and communities.
Bringing the Three Pillars Together
Innovation, quality and sustainability are often discussed independently, but their greatest value comes when they work together.
Innovation without quality delivers little longterm benefit. Quality without sustainability fails to address future challenges. Sustainability without innovation risks limiting progress. Success lies in integrating all three principles into every stage of product development and delivery.
For manufacturers serving the social housing sector, this means continuously investing in research and development, maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance and embracing sustainable practices throughout the business. It means working collaboratively with housing providers, contractors and policymakers to understand emerging requirements and develop solutions that address real-world challenges.
The social housing sector has a unique opportunity to lead by example. By prioritising products and partnerships that deliver innovation, quality and sustainability in equal measure, housing providers can improve housing stock, enhance resident experiences and support wider environmental goals.
As manufacturers, our role extends beyond supplying doors and windows. We are helping to create the homes and communities of the future. By keeping innovation, quality and sustainability at the heart of everything we do, we can support housing providers in delivering safer, warmer and more sustainable homes for the people who rely on them most.
The future of social housing will not be defined by any single product or technology. It will be defined by collective commitment to building better homes. Innovation, quality and sustainability are the foundations upon which that future will be built.
