A Note from the Chair
Good evening and welcome to our latest production - Shakers . I am pleased to introduce you to a
new director, Vicky Spurway who is directing for the first time for the club. I am also pleased that
we have two new members in the cast. Shakers is one of two plays by John Godber about
nightclub and wine bar culture in the eighties. It takes you into the lives of the girls making the
cocktails and serving the customers. Not only are we finding out about them but also the typical
characters that frequent the establishment. As a person of a certain age, as well as recognising the
music and some of the references, I may have been in a cocktail bar with one or two of those
people & recognise myself in some of them! I certainly remember drinking a cocktail or two and
still enjoy the occasional Cosmopolitan!
Having taken over as chair from James Rowe earlier this year I find myself working with a drama
club that is as creative as ever. We are facing a new and exciting challenge as we search for new
temporary venues over the next couple of years. This is our first production since leaving The
Commemoration Hall, our home for longer than anyone can remember. We are pleased and
excited that we have found such a great venue in the heart of Huntingdon and are only asking our
lovely loyal audience to walk a further few more steps to find us. I hope you enjoy tonight and
are as convinced as us that we can maintain our ability to produce good quality drama albeit in
different spaces.
