about the Cover
This issue’s cover celebrates one of Hillsborough County’s beloved annual events — the Gasparilla Invasion of the
Pirates and Parade, which is celebrating its 103rd anniversary this year on January 25. Presented by Ye Mystic Krewe of
Gasparilla, this year’s parade will boast over 140 units — including more than 103 elaborate floats, five marching bands,
and over 50 distinct Krewes! Hundreds of thousands of residents and tourists attend the parade and related Gasparilla
events every year, making January and February a busy season in the region. Pictured on the cover is the Jose Gaspar,
the world’s only fully-rigged pirate ship, which annually leads the pirate invasion that begins the annual parade down
