the hCba bench bar Conference, Membership
Luncheon & Judicial reception enjoyed record
attendance yet again this year as approximately
500 attorneys, judges, and other legal professionals
came out for a day of great CLe programming and
networking on october 25.
this year’s conference theme “Perception is
reality: identifying the Dangers of hidden bias in our
Profession” focused on exploring how implicit bias
can manifest itself inside and outside the courtroom.
aba President hilarie bass was the keynote
speaker at the Membership Luncheon, where the
hillsborough County bar foundation presented
seven local charities with checks totaling $125,000.
the thirteenth Judicial Circuit Professionalism
Committee also awarded Christopher Moody and
Joseph varner with the 2017 Professionalism
awards during the luncheon (see page 54).
the conference ended with attorneys, judges,
and friends of the legal community mingling at
the Judicial reception in the evening.
